Summer is coming… How does that make you feel?
- Relieved that the cold, grey days are nearly behind us?
- Delighted that the evenings are getting longer?
- Or terrified that you can’t hide behind your baggy wintry clothes any longer?
For many, this time of year brings a mix of emotions. Not just about the weather, but about how they feel in their body and how that then filters into the rest of their life. It’s often far deeper than clothes or holidays.
Confidence has a ripple effect into almost everything we do. It shapes how you show up to your family, at work, how visible you allow yourself to be, and whether you go for opportunities or hold yourself back. It can influence how much you earn, how you communicate, and how much space you feel comfortable taking up.
It also affects the depth and quality of your relationships and your overall day-to-day enjoyment. We are inherently social creatures, so when confidence is low you’re more likely to cancel plans, overthink simple decisions, or feel disconnected from yourself. Life can start to feel smaller, heavier, and way less enjoyable than it should.
Add in low energy, poor sleep or constant cravings, and it becomes even harder to take the actions you know would help. You can find yourself stuck in a cycle of knowing what to do, but not having the physical or mental capacity to follow through consistently.
Is it all about willpower?
In short, no.
Losing weight can absolutely bring health benefits. But what many people are really looking for is how they will feel as a result of it.
That feeling of getting dressed without frustration. Walking into a room without second-guessing yourself. Feeling comfortable, capable and at ease in your own body.
It brings to mind those classic ‘Priceless’ Mastercard adverts:
New outfit: £250
lipstick: £35
Evening bag: £90
The look on your ex-boyfriend’s face: priceless.
The carefree feeling, knowing that you feel amazing and look great completely . changes how you carry yourself, how you think, your ideas and aspirations and how much more of life you allow yourself to enjoy.
When your body feels like it’s working against you
One of the most frustrating parts of weight loss is when what used to work simply doesn’t anymore. You might be eating less, trying harder, and being more “disciplined” than ever, yet nothing seems to change.
This is where it’s important to understand that weight loss is not just about calories in and calories out. Your body is constantly responding to signals around safety, nourishment and stress, and it will hold onto weight if it doesn’t feel supported.
There are several key factors that can make weight loss feel difficult:
- Blood sugar imbalances can lead to energy crashes, stronger cravings and increased fat storage
- Chronic stress raises cortisol, which encourages the body to hold onto weight, particularly around the middle
- Poor sleep disrupts hunger hormones, making you feel hungrier and less satisfied
- Gut health imbalances can drive inflammation, affect metabolism and alter appetite signals
- Thyroid function plays a central role in how efficiently your body uses energy
- Liver load and toxin exposure can impact hormone balance and fat processing
- Undereating or skipping meals can slow metabolism and increase stress signals in the body
- Hormonal changes, particularly from the mid-30s onwards, can shift how and where weight is stored
Alongside this, the rhythm of your day matters more than most people realise. How you start your morning, how regularly you eat, and how balanced your meals are will all influence your energy, your mood and your ability to burn fat efficiently.
The reality of weight loss injections
Weight loss injections, including GLP-1 medications, are becoming increasingly common. And it’s important to say, they can be effective tools for reducing appetite and helping people lose weight in the short term.
However, newer large-scale research published in The BMJ highlights something many people aren’t being fully told.
Across 37 studies with over 9,000 participants, people tended to regain weight at an average rate of around 0.4 kg per month after stopping the medication. For many, weight returned close to starting levels within around 18 months.
At the same time, improvements in blood sugar, cholesterol and blood pressure also began to drift back.
This isn’t because people have failed. It’s because the medication works by suppressing appetite artificially. When that support is removed, hunger returns, and without strong foundations in place, the body simply goes back to what it knows.
What’s particularly interesting is that weight regain often happens faster after stopping medication than after finishing structured nutrition and lifestyle programmes. In some cases, regain can occur up to four times faster, even when similar weight loss was achieved.
This gives us a very clear message.
These medications can support weight loss, but they don’t address:
- why cravings were there in the first place
- how blood sugar is being regulated
- what’s happening with stress, sleep or hormones
- or how to eat in a way that feels sustainable long term
Without that, the results are often temporary.
The cost we don’t always consider
There’s also a financial side that’s worth thinking about.
Many of these medications can cost £150–£300+ per month, often ongoing if you want to maintain results. Over a year or two, that quickly becomes a significant investment, without necessarily building long-term independence.
Compare that to a structured nutrition programme where you are:
- learning how to stabilise your energy and appetite
- supporting your gut, hormones and metabolism
- building habits that actually fit your life
- and creating results that last beyond the programme itself
When you break it down, investing in your health in this way can be similar to your daily coffee that you don’t think twice about buying. Yet the return is something far more valuable… consistent energy, clarity, confidence and a body that feels like it’s working with you.
A different way to approach weight loss
When you support your body properly, things begin to change in a way that feels far more sustainable. Energy becomes more consistent, cravings reduce, and your mind feels clearer and more focused.
From that place, you naturally make better choices without it feeling like a constant effort. You’re no longer relying on willpower alone, because your body is working with you rather than against you.
This is where weight loss starts to become a side effect of better balance, rather than the sole focus. And importantly, it feels calmer, more achievable and far less consuming.
What this really gives YOU
This isn’t just about losing weight. It’s about getting back to a place where you feel energised, capable and more like yourself again.
It’s about:
- waking up with more energy and clarity
- moving through your day without constant dips and cravings
- feeling comfortable and confident in your clothes
- having the headspace to enjoy your relationships and your time
And ultimately, it’s about having the energy and health to do the things you want to do, when you want to do them. That’s something many people take for granted until it starts to slip.
If you’re finding that your body isn’t responding the way it used to, it’s not a sign that you’ve failed. It’s a sign that your body needs a different kind of support.
So, consider this…
What would change for you if you felt comfortable, energised and confident in your body again?
Not just in how you look, but in how you show up, how you think, and how much more of life you allow yourself to experience.
Because when your body feels supported, everything else starts to open up.
